Visitors to regional parks and trails can walk, bike, swim, picnic, ski, camp, play ball, look at the stars, and enjoy archery and dozens of other outdoor activities. The system includes 56 parks and park reserves and 8 special recreation features, with 56,200 acres of land open for public use, and 400 miles of interconnected trails.

Several large parks have free admission for entrance by vehicle while others require daily or annual passes. All parks have free admission for those who walk or ride their bicycle to enter.
