Brian McDaniel was appointed to the Metropolitan Council by Governor Tim Pawlenty in 2003 and reappointed in 2007. McDaniel represents District 16, which includes a southern slice of Eagan, all of Apple Valley, Rosemount, Hastings, Lakeville, Farmington and 18 rural communities in southern Dakota County.
McDaniel is a government relations representative with Lockridge, Guindal, Nauen, Minneapolis. He previously served as director of government affairs for the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. He also has served as the legislative director for the Speaker of the Minnesota House, director of fiscal policy for the Minnesota Business Partnership and an attorney in private practice.
McDaniel serves on the Council’s Community Development and Transportation Committees, as well as the Litigation Review Special Committee.
“The communities in my district in Dakota County are all in various stages of growth,” said McDaniel. “Some are fully developed, others are very rural, and others are in between, and how this growth occurs and how these communities interact with each other is a big challenge. Transportation is also an important issue for this growing area.” “I’m excited about the renewed commitment this Council has made to work in cooperation with local communities,” McDaniel added.
McDaniel has a B.A. in political science and a minor in economics from Minnesota State University in Mankato, and a J.D. from the William Mitchell College of Law. Brian lives in Apple Valley with his two children, Joseph and Matthew. He enjoys coaching sports and reading, especially true crime and history.
He is active in local politics and the Republican Party. To contact McDaniel, you may call 952-239-3612, or e-mail: brian.mcdaniel@metc.state.mn.us
