Craig Peterson was appointed to the Metropolitan Council by Governor Tim Pawlenty in December 2007. He represents District 4, which includes all of Carver and Scott Counties plus the Hennepin County cities of Minnetrista and St. Bonifacius, and serves on the Metropolitan Council’s Environment and Management committees.
A licensed real estate broker, Peterson is the principal consultant with Marathon Enterprises, Inc., a business specializing in real estate and general management services for small and mid-sized companies. Previously, he held a number of positions for 23 years with the Gelco Corporation, culminating as vice president of administration.
Long active in local politics, Peterson was a member of the Chanhassen City Council and the Chanhassen Economic Development Authority from 2000 until his appointment to the Metropolitan Council. He also served on the Southwest Transit Commission from 2002-2007, including tenure as chair, and was a member of the Metropolitan Council Transportation Advisory Board from 2005-2007. He previously was a member of the Chanhassen Planning Commission, where he served as chair for four years.
Peterson chairs the board of directors of Wilderness Inquiry, a non-profit organization dedicated to making adventure travel accessible to everyone regardless of age, background or ability. He is active in general aviation and is an instrument-rated pilot.
Peterson earned his masters degree in business administration from Mankato State University, and his bachelor of arts degree in business administration from Southwest State University in Marshall. He lives in Chanhassen with his wife, Ellie. They have three adult children and two grandchildren.
