Tony Pistilli
Metropolitan Council Member, District 2

Tony Pistilli was appointed to the Metropolitan Council by Governor Tim Pawlenty in 2003 and reappointed in 2007. Pistilli represents District 2, which includes Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Robbinsdale, Osseo, Spring Lake Park, Columbia Heights, Fridley and Hilltop.

Pistilli is chief appraiser and vice president for consumer banking risk management at US Bank, Minneapolis. He previously operated his own a real estate appraisal firm, worked as a staff appraiser for several mortgage companies and served as a branch assistant for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Until his appointment to the Council, he was a member of the Brooklyn Park City Council (elected in 2000). He served on the Brooklyn Park Planning Commission from 1995 to 2000. He also served as President of the City’s Economic Development Authority.

As a Council member, Pistilli takes a particular interest in issues of growth and housing. He is a member of the Council’s Community Development and Management Committees, and chair of its Land Use Advisory Committee.  In addition, Pistilli serves on the MetroGIS Policy Board and the Northwest Corridor Bus Rapid Transit Committee.

“I believe we should allow local communities to plan where development will occur, as long as regional services can be provided economically, rather than relying on a strictly defined metropolitan urban services area,” Pistilli said. “We ought to coordinate more closely with the market to determine the land supply.”

He also hopes to raise the awareness and benefits of the Council’s activities with the general public. “A lot of people don’t even know what the Council does,” Pistilli said. “Most people don’t even realize the Council operates the bus system or that when they flush the toilet the Council is treating the wastewater.”

“Because of the Council’s regional planning there are efficiencies that individual communities could not duplicate,” Pistilli said.

Pistilli and his wife Nancy live in Brooklyn Park with their two children, Anthony and Sara. Tony enjoys reading, exercising regularly and boating and bicycling with his family. He volunteers in the church and community and stays busy shuttling his children to various activities, including baseball and softball games, and piano lessons.
Pistilli attended North Hennepin Community College, Augsburg College and the University of Minnesota.
