Council seeks Minneapolis applicants to serve on Land Use Advisory Committee

ST. PAUL—Sept. 18, 2008--The Metropolitan Council is seeking applicants for a vacancy on its Land Use Advisory Committee. The open seat is in Metropolitan Council District 7 in the north and western portion of the city, including downtown.

The 18-member committee advises the Metro Council on land use and local comprehensive planning issues. The committee is composed of members from each Metro Council District, and each metro-area county must be represented. At least half of the members must be local elected officials.

Applicants must live in the district from which they’re appointed and will serve a term that expires January 2011. See a map of Council District 7.

“The Council has a number of advisory committees, including the committee on land use, and they are vitally important to the work we do,” said Committee Chair Tony Pistilli, who represents Council District 2.

“Our advisory groups bring to the table a variety of perspectives that help shape the regional policies and decisions that are critical to maintaining the quality of life we enjoy here in the Twin Cities metro area,” said Pistilli.

The Land Use Advisory Committee meets every other month, on the third Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Metropolitan Council is the regional planning organization for the seven-county Twin Cities area. The Council runs the regional bus and light rail system, collects and treats wastewater, coordinates regional water resources, plans regional parks and administers funds that provide housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income individuals and families. The Council board is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the governor.
