Land Acquisition for Affordable New Development (LAAND)

A timely new program offered by Minnesota Housing, the Metropolitan Council, and the Family Housing Fund is now available to provide loan financing to assist communities in meeting their affordable housing need objectives.

The Land Acquisition for Affordable New Development (LAAND) funds will be available through the consolidated RFP published by Minnesota Housing. The funding initiative will give priority to proposals seeking the acquisition of land that is close to job growth areas or significant numbers of lower wage jobs, allows for density that is consistent with achieving affordability, minimizes vehicle miles traveled, is proximate to public transit and implements Green Communities criteria, Minnesota Overlay or comparable program in the development process.

The Metropolitan Council funds are available to Livable Communities participating communities in the seven-county area to help them acquire land for future affordable housing projects.

For more details, see a description of the LAAND program (4 pages, pdf).

Applications for these funds, including loans to acquire lands for future single, multiple or mixed single and multiple-family affordable housing projects, may be made through the consolidated single family RFP and application, available on the Minnesota Housing website.
