Leaders from the Metropolitan Council and Metro Transit will be joined by several partners for a ceremonial groundbreaking at the Mall of America Transit Center on Thursday, Aug.2. The event marks the start of extensive renovations at the state's busiest transit center.
The Mall of America Transit Center is served by the METRO Blue Line, METRO Red Line and several local bus routes. Around 5,600 boardings occur at the transit center each weekday.
The revamped transit center will move all bus operations to the east side of the light rail tracks, creating a safer and more efficient operation. Improved lighting, signage and a new façade will also make the transit center more inviting and visible.
The improvements are expected to be completed in late 2019.
