With the Metropolitan Council and Hennepin County’s endorsement of the recommended route for the Blue Line Extension light rail project in late June, the project is moving forward with its environmental, design, anti-displacement, and public engagement work. To help guide this work, the project needs your perspectives.
We are seeking applications for the Blue Line Extension Community Advisory Committee (CAC) and Business Advisory Committee (BAC). These committees serve as voices of the residents and businesses in the project corridor by advising the Metropolitan Council and Hennepin County on how the project can best serve the neighborhoods and businesses near the line. Members of the BAC and CAC are instrumental in planning and implementing project activities and will work closely with project staff to advance the project.
We intend for membership on these committees to represent the diverse interests and stakeholders in the Blue Line Extension project area. Gender balance as well as representation of diverse groups in terms of race/ethnicity, geography, and other perspectives will be considered in the selection process. Members will be appointed to the committees by the Metropolitan Council, Hennepin County and each of the corridor cities. Each city will have their own process of selecting their members.
Application criteria for the committees:
Community Advisory Committee (CAC):
- Residents from a corridor community, including Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Robbinsdale, or Minneapolis.
Business Advisory Committee (BAC):
- Small business owners or representatives for larger businesses, nonprofits, or other service entities located near the project corridor.
- Please note there are specific spots reserved for nonprofit members on the BAC. We encourage non-profits to apply.
If you are interested in applying to be a CAC or BAC member, please complete an online application.
Direct any questions to Community Outreach Coordinator, Kjerstin Yager at Kjerstin.Yager@metrotransit.org or 612-373-3955. The application process is open from July 28, 2022 – September 2, 2022.
Selected members will be notified in mid-to-late September. The first meetings for both of these committees will begin in the fall. In the following months, the CAC will meet in-person on the first Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m., and the BAC will meet in-person on the first Tuesday of the month at 8:00 a.m.
