Title Rivers Simulated in Twin Cities Metropolitan Area Groundwater-Flow Model V3.0
Abstract This dataset contains polylines of rivers simulated in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area groundwater flow model version 3.

The dataset does not contain data for riverine lakes or impoundments. These are included in a separate polygon dataset titled 'Riverine Lakes and Impoundments Simulated in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area Groundwater Flow Model'.
Purpose This dataset was developed to be used to build a regional groundwater flow model for the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area
Time Period of Content Date 03/26/2014
Currentness Reference This data reflects data based on model calibration completed in 2013.

Section 2 Data Quality
Attribute Accuracy There are no known deficiencies.
Logical Consistency There are no known deficiencies
Completeness This data reflects data based on model calibration completed in 2013.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy Horizontal position accuracy is estimated to be +/- 50 meters. Aerial photos from 2010 were used to visually check the stream segment locations. However, errors in the range of 50 meters were often considered acceptable and not adjusted.
Vertical Positional Accuracy The vertical position accuracy is estimated to be +/- 5 meters.

The elevation listed in the attributes 'Stg_start' and 'Stg_end' reflects data from either a 10m digital elevation model and/or digital elevation models derived from LIDAR data. LIDAR data typically are much more accurate. However, the coverage of LIDAR data is incomplete at the time of construction.
Lineage The river dataset developed for the Twin Cities Metropolitan Groundwater Flow model 2.0 was used as an initial starting point to develop this data set. The stage elevations were checked and adjusted as necessary and new streams were added. Attributes from that dataset that were no longer relevant to this study were removed from the data.

Stream centerline locations were originally derived from the Minnesota DNR Public Waters (PWI) watercourses dataset. These streams were then broken down into segments, or reaches, for inclusion into the groundwater flow model. The locations of stream center lines were checked against aerial photos and adjusted in areas that would cause problems for implementing into a groundwater flow model.

Elevations for the top and bottom of each reach were determined using a 10m DEM and LIDAR elevation data where available. These elevations are listed in the fields 'Stg_Start' and 'Stg_End'.

Segments of rivers and streams that flow through lakes, or are impounded, where clipped from the dataset. A separate dataset of polygons for these segments was developed.

Section 5 Attributes
Overview River_Name: Name or River/Stream. Some smaller streams are not named

Width: Approx. width of the river along the segment in meters. Values were initially set at those used for the Metro Model 2 and were adjusted as necessary based on estimates from aerial imagery.

Shape_Leng: Length of line segment in meters

Thick: Bed sediment thickness used to calculate conductance. Values are in meters. For simplicity, all 'Thick' values set to 1m

Stg_start: The river or stream stage at the begging of the line segment. All values are in meters. Elevations for the top and bottom of each reach were determined using a 10m DEM and LIDAR elevation data where available

Stg_end: The river or stream stage at the end of the line segment. All values are in meters. Elevations for the top and bottom of each reach were determined using a 10m DEM and LIDAR elevation data where available

Kz: Vertical hydraulic conductivity of the bed sediments used to estimate conductance for the model. Values in m/day.

Bot_Start: The river or stream bottom at the begging of the line segment. All values are in meters and set as Stg_start - 1m.

Bot_end: The river or stream bottom at the end of the line segment. All values are in meters and set as Stg_end - 1m.

WidthK: Field representing the Width * Kz. This field may be useful for importing into some graphical user interfaces.
