Project Description

In fall 2019, during Metropolitan Council Environmental Services' (MCES) cleaning of Interceptor 1-MN-320 in the Harrison neighborhood of Minneapolis, inspections revealed that the top of the pipe had sunk.  1-MN-320 was a brick arch tunnel built in 1894 and measuring approximately 7 feet wide by 7 feet tall.  The most severe area of failure was approximately 80 feet long, located under Van White Boulevard.

Repair work included uncovering the top of the pipe to remove debris from the old pipe, laying a new pipe through the deteriorated area, and grouting it in place. The roadway has been reconstructed and final striping and boulevard restoration will take place in spring 2020.
