New Metropolitan Council Chair Alene Tchourumoff (CHUR-um-off) kicked off a 7-County Tour this week, in her effort to foster deeper partnerships with regional leaders.
Chair Tchourumoff started her tour in Washington County on Thursday, where she joined Washington County Commissioners for a workshop to discuss future growth, transit needs, water quality concerns, and comprehensive planning updates, among many other topics. They then toured the Lake Elmo Regional Park.
On Friday morning, Chair Tchourumoff will be in Hugo, for a meeting and city tour with Mayor Tom Weidt and city staff. She’ll also join White Bear Lake Mayor Jo Emerson for lunch.
“Our success as a region relies upon strong partnerships with the many cities, counties and communities we serve,” said Chair Tchourumoff. “I appreciate our regional leaders and their staff taking time to meet with me, tell me about their communities’ needs, and discuss how we can better work together to strengthen the Twin Cities metro region.”
Next week, Chair Tchourumoff will visit Dakota County. From there, the tour will take her to Anoka County the week of August 21, Scott County the week of September 5, Carver County the week of September 11, Hennepin County the week of September 25, and Ramsey County the week of October 2.
Chair Tchourumoff also had her first broadcast interview since being sworn in. On Thursday morning, she joined Tom Weber on MPR for a half-hour discussion about her vision and the challenges ahead for the region. On Friday evening she will appear on TPT’s Almanac.
