Finding temporary shelter for encampment residents

Date: Thursday, May 28, 2020

In an effort to assure the safety of the people experiencing homeless who are living in the encampment on Met Council property along Hiawatha Avenue in Minneapolis, we are actively working to evacuate them to an emergency shelter, working with local government partners and service providers.

The urgent situation we face places the encampment’s residents in harm’s way from potential violence, as well as the environmental hazards related to nearby fires, releasing teargas, and related concerns, including exposure to the COVID-19 virus.

Our primary aim is to protect their safety and continue working to connect them to permanent, safe housing.
