The Metropolitan Council’s Housing and Redevelopment Authority, Metro HRA, has earned the top rating for performance from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the 20th consecutive year. Metro HRA earned its “High Performer” status by using funds efficiently, following various program guidelines accurately, inspecting units in a timely way, and ensuring landlords are promptly correcting housing deficiencies. “Completing accurate and timely work contributes to the safety, stability, and success of families, and means we can serve more families,” said Charlie Zelle, Met Council Chair. “Through the Housing Choice Voucher program, we work with more than 1,400 private property owners to provide affordable housing opportunities in the region. This is an important piece of addressing a critical need.” Metro HRA performance ranked on 14 factors HUD evaluates and ranks the performance of housing authorities administering the Housing Choice Voucher program each year using the Section 8 Management Assessment Program. Housing authorities are scored on 14 indicators to ensure the HRA is: Efficiently using funds to house as many families as possible Admitting applicants to the program according to selection policies Accurately verifying family income Correctly calculating tenant’s share of rent Applying sound reasonable rent policies to ensure each unit is reasonably priced Inspecting units in a timely way Ensuring landlords promptly correct housing deficiencies Metro HRA supports 7,200 households with rent assistance, putting more than $85 million in federal funds annually into the private housing market.
