Community voices have played a crucial role in shaping the Blue Line Extension project to date and will continue to drive decisions as the project advances. Here are just a few of the ways your input has shaped this project: 

Major Changes  

  • Moving the route off of West Broadway to 21st Avenue North between I-94 and James Avenue (Minneapolis) 
  • Moving route from Lyndale Avenue to east of I-94 (Minneapolis) 
  • Removing mixed LRT and traffic on 21st Avenue (Minneapolis) 
  • Park-and-Ride location options (Robbinsdale) 
  • Lowry Avenue Station redesign  (Robbinsdale/Minneapolis) 
  • Improvements to West Broadway parallel to tracks on 21st Avenue (Minneapolis) 
  • Desiging project with an anti-displacement lens to minimize impacts (property/business)  

Reducing Impacts 

  • Traffic signal placement and access at CR 103 (Brooklyn Park) 
  • An added “fourth leg” at the intersection of West Broadway and Hwy 610 (Brooklyn Park) 
  • Evaluated 4-, 5-, and 6- traffic-lane options with LRT from Bass Lake Road to Hwy 100 (Crystal) 
  • Adding a traffic overpass at Bass Lake Road (Crystal) 
  • Reconstruction of Bass Lake Road to support better pedestrian connection to Becker Park (Crystal) 
  • Added U-Turn movement at Bass Lake Road and Sherborne Avenue (Crystal) 
  • No-net-loss in vegetation near the Project 
  • Reducing property impacts 
  • New connection across I-94 and 21st Avenue (Minneapolis)  

Community Impacts 

  • Trail connections to and from station 
  • Pedestrian safety improvements along corridor  
  • Pedestrian connects to and from Lowry Avenue station, including to and from North Memorial Hospital (Robbinsdale) 
  • Road improvements 
  • Street parking improved connectivity and traffic circulation (Minneapolis) 
  • Transit greenways to provide safe and comfortable places for people to walk, bike, and take transit  

Station Amenities  

  • Additional station lighting  
  • Uniform fencing 
  • Moved Downtown Robbinsdale station to north of 40th Street (Robbinsdale) 
  • Include a Metro Transit substation in Downtown Robbinsdale Park-and-Ride 
  • All lighting installed will use LEDs and meet Dark Sky compliance  
  • Adding a second station between Lyndale and James avenues 
  • Changing the Lowry Avenue station from an elevated platform to one at ground level
