Apply by May 15 for federal transportation funding

The Metropolitan Council has released the 2020 Regional Solicitation and will accept applications for federal transportation funding until May 15 at 4 p.m. Technical experts from across the region will rank and score the projects before the Transportation Advisory Board selects projects for funding in late 2020.

About the 2020 Regional Solicitation

About $180 million in federal transportation funds will be available for distribution for projects that will start in 2024 and 2025. Learn about applying for Regional Solicitation funds.

Eligible metro-area applicants include the seven counties, cities and townships, state agencies, American Indian tribal governments, and transit providers. Nonprofit organizations may apply only in the travel demand management category.

  • Strategic capacity (roadway expansion)

  • Roadway reconstruction / modernization

  • Roadway spot mobility and safety

  • Traffic management technologies (roadway system management)

  • Bridge rehabilitation / replacement

  • Multiuse trails and bicycle facilities

  • Pedestrian facilities

  • Safe routes to school

  • Transit expansion

  • Transit system modernization

  • Travel demand management (2022 and 2023 funds)

Every two years, the council distributes federal transportation funds for locally initiated projects that meet regional transportation needs. Visit the Regional Solicitation page for more information.
