Inver Grove Heights is joining other metro cities in subscribing to solar farms. By joining the other 21 cities, Inver Grove Heights is moving forward with plans to use and promote clean energy.
“It’s kind of a responsibility of all of us in taking a look at some renewable energy that can help [in reducing] our carbon footprint and being better stewards of the environment,” Mayor George Tourville said.
Tourville explained that the city started looking at solar energy well before the collaborative project, but this allowed the council to move forward on it.
Besides the solar subscription program, which is being coordinated by the Metropolitan Council, the city is planning to install solar panels on top of both City Hall and Veterans Memorial Community Center. This work will be done later in the fall after a new roof is put on the community center. The panels will directly help power those facilities.
