Cities, counties, and townships in the seven-county Twin Cities region will be getting a multitude of support from the Metropolitan Council as they begin to update their local comprehensive plans.

The Met Council is poised in February to adopt forecasts for local population, household, and job growth for the seven-county Twin Cities region.

New comprehensive regional plan will establish the vision, values, key challenges, and policies for transportation, water services, parks, land use, and housing throughout the metro.

Local comprehensive plans reflect the vision of metro area cities and townships. The Met Council reviews the plans to ensure planned growth is compatible with regional infrastructure investment.

Preliminary population estimates show Minneapolis and Saint Paul continue to lead growth in number of new residents.

At the federal government’s behest, the Met Council Transportation Advisory Board has stipulated that any city vying for funding must have a plan to make streets, sidewalks and intersections easier.
