Oh poop! exhibit draws thousands of visitors

Date: Wednesday, September 10, 2025
Visitors sniffed to identify different odors, challenged themselves with a wastewater trivia quiz, and posed with the big pile of fabricated poop at the Minnesota State Fair.

For the second year, Metropolitan Council Environmental Services hosted the “Oh poop!” exhibit in the Eco Experience Building. The interactive exhibit teaches people how dirty water from their house becomes clean enough for fish and other aquatic life, what water careers they could pursue, and what they should put in a toilet (nothing but poop, pee, and toilet paper – definitely not flushable wipes!).

The Met Council treats about 250 million gallons of wastewater daily from 111 communities and about 2.9 million people in the seven-county metro region at 9 water resource recovery facilities. Next time you flush, say “thank you!”
