Project Description
Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (ES),
operator of the metro area wastewater collection and treatment system, is evaluating the rehabilitation or relocation of the aging and deteriorating sanitary sewer forcemain (pipe). The forcemain starts west of Town Line Road (Baker Park Road) and follows Highway 12 and Wayzata Boulevard to Willow Drive.
This infrastructure is a critical component of sanitary sewer service in Maple Plain, Independence, Medina, Orono, and Long Lake. The forcemain sends wastewater from local residents and businesses to the regional sewer that delivers it to the
Blue Lake Water Resource Recovery Facility in Shakopee to be treated. Improvements to this system will repair or replace the aging infrastructure and enhance the system’s efficiency, reliability and capacity.

The sewer pipes right under our feet are an important part of our wastewater infrastructure, but they are getting old and need repair. ES has a strategic plan to fix aging sewer pipes to keep the region’s wastewater flowing and neighborhoods safe.
