Project Description

Metropolitan Council Environmental Services is working with contractor Synagro at the Rogers Wastewater Treatment Facility to remove solids from the solids holding pond. The project started in early 2024 and will finish in 2026.

The goal of the project is to remove enough biosolids from the pond to operate the facility until 2030, when decommissioning will start.  The biosolids are being removed from the pond with a floating dredge.  The solids are then thickened by an onsite gravity belt thickener.  Once thickened, they are transported to local farm fields to help augment the soil or to a landfill to be used as daily cover in the landfill layering process.

Synagro will also be helping the facility by cleaning out accumulated grit from the oxidation ditches.  This will allow the facility to reclaim aeration capacity that has been lost due to the sandlike material that has collected overtime on the bottom of the tanks.
