Project Description

Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES), operator of the metro-area wastewater collection and treatment system, will begin repairing sanitary sewers in Orono along North Shore Drive between Pine Lane and Shoreline Drive.

  2. Perform additional assessments on the existing pipe.
  3. Perform any necessary repairs on the pipes.
  4. Short-term closures of driveways and streets. Advance notice will be provided to any impacted properties.

This project is anticipated to begin in February 2024 and to be completed in summer 2024.

Why now?

As part of maintaining our interceptor pipe system, we periodically assess the condition of our pipes. A recent assessment along North Shore Drive detected significant corrosion in our pipe between French Creek Drive and Railroad Avenue. While we do not anticipate leaks, we decided to make immediate repairs due to the environmentally sensitive location of the pipe.
