Affordable homeownership
The MetCouncil recognizes that affordable homeownership opportunities are an integral part of providing a full range of housing choices. Local governments can play a key role in creating and leveraging innovative homeownership strategies, including those that allow a home to remain affordable to low- and moderate-income households even when the property is resold. Support for mixed income housing
The Council has partnered with the Family Housing Fund and the Urban Land Institute of Minnesota to support mixed income (or inclusionary) housing efforts in the region. Together, we developed a series of online tools, including a Mixed Income Feasibility Calculator that allows users to explore the relationship between various local incentives and the development of mixed income housing. Manufactured Home Park Preservation
Redevelopment pressures, aging infrastructure, and locations near major transportation infrastructures threaten the region's Manufactured Home Parks (MHP), an important source of affordable housing. Selected as part of the Met Council's 2015 Equity Implementation Grant program, the Manufactured Home Park Preservation Project is a two-part, multi-divisional effort involving housing policy, connection to the regional wastewater treatment system, and environmental and water quality considerations. Livable Communities Program
The Council’s Livable Communities program helps expand affordable housing opportunities and strengthen connections among housing, jobs and services. The program provides grants to:
