Message from the Council Chair: Livable Communities Act has changed lives and our cities

Any city in the seven-county metro area can participate in the LCA program. It has helped build new supermarkets on Saint Paul’s East Side and in Oakdale. In Hopkins, it helped to connect the city’s downtown to the new Southwest light rail stop across Excelsior Boulevard. And the program has supported the creation of thousands of affordable housing units across the region.

Met Council and Edina partner on affordable housing

Edina will purchase single-family homes, make sure they’re up to code, and then lease them to us. We will rent the homes to lower-income working families and oversee the day-to-day management.

Council awards grants for affordable housing

The Metropolitan Council awarded $5.5 million in grants for affordable housing, the largest award from the affordable housing fund in the 25-year history of the Livable Communities program.
