Subregional Engagement

for water planning and action

Creating a space where water and land use professionals can collaborate, solve problems, learn from each other, and build relationships to ensure clean and sustainable water—for today and the future.

Everything that happens on land impacts water, and water impacts everything. Communities and ecosystems rely on safe, sufficient, and reliable water for health, prosperity, and life in general.

Collaborating across professions and jurisdictional boundaries creates opportunities for coordinated action to ensure a sustainable water future.

Background

The Water Policy Plan was developed with considerable input from water and water-adjacent professionals as part of the Imagine 2050 regional development guide update process. A powerful engagement tool used to create it was an intensive participatory planning pulse conducted through subregional groups spanning the metro region.

While the driver and primary focus for the discussions that took place at least started with water supply, the discussions were designed to support integrated water planning and, as a result, the relationships, knowledge, and action plans that were developed through the process were integrated as well. Participants valued the approach and requested its continuation, and further discussions are anticipated to build on the foundation established in 2023-2024 while more fully leaning into integrated water management.
