Chaska Lift Station

Facility background

Chaska Lift Station 71 on Beech St. collects wastewater from Carver and Chaska and pumps it to the Blue Lake Water Resource Recovery Facility located in Shakopee. The facility has gone through several changes over the years, starting as a wastewater treatment plant that was taken out of service in 1998. In 2003, the site was retrofitted to build a lift station facility. A temporary lift station was constructed in 2007 and operational until the most recent renovation of the facility was completed in 2018 and put into service at that time.

Working to minimize odors

Thank you to everyone who has alerted us to odors. Metropolitan Council is committed to being a good neighbor and keeping wastewater odors to a minimum. The process of wastewater being transported from a home or business to a water resource recovery facility can generate hydrogen sulfide and other sulfur compound vapors, and steps are taken along the way to mitigate these odors.

We are taking these actions to minimize odors:
  • Operate odor control carbon filters and control systems
  • Evaluate air flows and odor levels
  • Monthly odor monitoring of odor control unit

Plans to do more

We are planning these additional actions:
  • Installation of continuous hydrogen sulfide (H2S) monitors on the odor control unit to monitor H2S removal efficiency
