Electric Vehicle Public Charging Needs

EV charging station.Where are public charging stations needed in the Twin Cities region?

As more drivers are choosing electric vehicles, communities want to understand the needs for public charging stations in the region and where the region could use public transportation funds to support charging needs.

This analysis examines needs for public electric vehicle charging stations in the Twin Cities region and how the public sector can help meet that need. This effort will advance objectives in the region’s 2050 Transportation Policy Plan (part of Imagine 2050), including leading on climate change, creating an equitable and inclusive region, and supporting healthy communities.

  • Inform a potential future electric vehicle charging category in our distribution of federal funds to regional transportation projects (Regional Solicitation)
  • Inform how the region uses a grant awarded from the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure program
  • Provide resources for local governments and organizations (including electric utilities) for siting charging infrastructure
