Working together to improve transit in the Twin Cities region

The Metropolitan Council is the lead agency developing the Southwest LRT Project. Many public and private partners are working together with the Council to make this project a reality by contributing funding, oversight and expertise.

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation and provides capital funding grants for rail transit improvement projects through the New Starts program.

Hennepin County and the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority provide funding for the project. The County's Southwest LRT Community Works program is involved in land use planning around light rail stations.
