Answers to questions about the waiting list for the Housing Choice Voucher Program

How do I find out if I made the lottery?
The lottery was completed on July 5. You will need to log in to www.waitlistcheck.com to view your status with the username and password you used to apply.

Active: You were selected in the lottery, and you are on the list for Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher with Metro HRA.

Inactive: You were not selected in the lottery, and you are NOT on the list for Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher with Metro HRA.

I applied for Minneapolis Public Housing Authority and/or Saint Paul Public Housing Agency waiting list(s). How do I find out if I made another lottery?
To view your status, log in at www.waitlistcheck.com with the username and password you used to apply.

I applied and didn’t write down my username and password.
Go to www.waitlistcheck.com and click on Forgot Password. Then enter your user ID (it will be your email or phone number) to reset your password.

My status says inactive. Why?
Your name was not selected in the random lottery.

Why didn’t I qualify for the lottery?
There was nothing you did to not qualify. Placement on the list was done through a random selection.

My status says active. What do I do now?
You will need to set up an account at www.assistancecheck.com. Follow the instructions carefully when setting up your account. This is the system that will be used to notify you when you come to the top of the waiting list.

I have set up my account on www.assistanceconnect.com. What do I do now?
Wait for your name to be selected from the list. Please use www.assistancecheck.com to report any changes in your address or family size. If we are unable to locate you, your name may be removed from the waiting list.

My status says I am active. Can I go get an apartment now?
You have applied for the waiting list. You may wait 1-4 years for assistance. Final eligibility is determined when your name is selected from the waiting list.

How long will I wait for a voucher?
Wait times depend on many variables out of our control. You may wait 1-4 years for a voucher. There will be 2,000 names randomly placed on this list. Your wait time will depend on where you are placed on the list and funding availability.

Where can I live with a voucher from Metro HRA?
Metro HRA offers assistance in the communities throughout Anoka, Carver, and suburban Hennepin and Ramsey counties, excluding the cities of St. Paul, Minneapolis, Bloomington, Plymouth, Richfield and St. Louis Park.
