METRO GOLD LINE

The METRO Gold Line will connect communities

The METRO Gold Line is a new 10-mile-long bus rapid transit (BRT) route that will bring frequent, all-day service connecting St. Paul, Maplewood, Landfall, Oakdale, and Woodbury. Construction of the Gold Line has begun, and the line is expected to begin providing service in 2025 once complete. Although the line is not yet operational, communities have already begun seeing growth.

History of the METRO Gold Line

The Gold Line, first planned in 2010, began construction in fall 2022 to address congestion in the east metro. Funded by public and private partners, the project involved significant community input, much of it gathered online during the pandemic. Once complete, the Gold Line will connect residents to jobs, homes, businesses, and essential services across the region.

What is happening on the Gold Line?

We're connecting communities.

Even though the Gold Line is not yet operational, communities along the line are already seeing growth and development. $557 million has been invested along the Gold Line giving residents more places to live, work, shop, and play - all soon to be connected by the Gold Line.

The Gold Line will connect St. Paul, Maplewood, Landfall, Oakdale, and Woodbury, but riders can go even further with just one connecting trip. The METRO Green Line and B Line connect with the Gold Line, letting residents reach Minneapolis, Bloomington, and locations such as the Mall of America and the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

Homes are being built.

Over $121 million is planned in residential development on the line. This will bring a projected 5,900 residential units to communities. Adding onto the 1,115 new residential units that have already been added, communities on the Gold Line will continue to see more housing options.

Affordable housing is a priority, this is why 15% of housing built along the line is designated as affordable. The Gold Line will connect our most economically disadvantaged residents not only with jobs, parks, and businesses, but also affordable housing.

Businesses have the opportunity to grow.

$32 million is planned in commercial development along the transitway. This development brings more options for shopping, lodging, dining, and more to communities along the line.

Communities invest in amenities and connections where we build transit.
$111 million is planned for schools, churches, and other community spaces and amenities along the Gold Line. That investment will connect residents with parks and green spaces, walking and biking paths, public facilities, and more public and institutional development along the Gold Line.

We're creating jobs.

The $32 million in planned commercial development will not only bring businesses, but also create jobs along the line. Development, in general, creates jobs. A total of $1.3 billion is planned in total development, creating jobs while enriching communities.

When the Gold Line is operational, communities will be mobilized. However, communities are finding new places to shop, work, live, and play because of development along the line. Development along the Gold Line is enriching our already vibrant communities. Learn more about the METRO Gold Line.
