METRO C LINE

The METRO C Line connects communities

The METRO C Line has been in operation since June 2019. Since then, development along the C Line has continued to enrich communities and bring more housing options, job opportunities, parks, businesses, and more.

History of the METRO C Line

Though the C Line began service in 2019 and was the second bus rapid transit line on high-capacity roadways in the region, addressing the transit needs on Penn Avenue, previously served by Route 19.

The Metropolitan Council, Metro Transit, Hennepin County, and the City of Minneapolis worked with local communities to shape the C Line’s design through extensive outreach. The C Line now connects residents to jobs, homes, and parks, offering faster, more frequent service and an improved transit experience.

What is happening on the C Line?

We're connecting communities.

Communities have been connected with housing options, workplaces, businesses, parks, and more with just one transit ride. The C Line currently connects Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center via Penn Avenue. Currently, the METRO Green Line and METRO Blue Line can be reached by the C Line. This means that residents along the C Line transitway are connected not just to Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center, but also St. Paul and Bloomington.

Homes are being built.

Through 2023, communities have permitted 7,900 residential units along the C Line, worth more than $1.9 billion.

Housing can be expensive, which is problem faced by many residents of those near the C Line. About 28% of the housing permitted and built along the C Line from 2014 to 2023 is defined as affordable.
This means that economically disadvantaged residents along the C Line not only have affordable access to jobs, homes, business and communities, but also more affordable housing options.

Businesses have the opportunity to grow.

Commercial development worth more than $1.8 billion has been permitted and built on the C Line corridor from 2014 through 2023. This will bring more stores, restaurants, hotels, and other businesses to the communities along the C Line.

Communities invest in amenities and connections where we build transit.

From 2014 through 2023, communities have permitted nearly $459 million for schools, churches, and other community spaces and amenities along the C Line. That invest will connect residents with parks, walking and biking paths, public facilities, and more.

Briefcase

We're creating jobs.

$20 million is planned in industrial development. This will continue to create jobs in the manufacturing industry for communities.

Industrial development along the C Line will bring jobs to the area, with nearly $5.5 million invested in industrial facilities, factories, and more.

Since 2019, the METRO C Line has supported the growth and enrichment of communities by accessibly and affordably connecting residents and communities with housing, jobs, businesses, parks, and more. Learn more about the METRO C Line.
