Section 106 / Historical and Cultural Properties

The National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), which became law in 1966, establishes our national policy on the preservation of historic and cultural places. The Section 106 review process is an integral component of the NHPA and studies the project impact on historical and cultural properties and ways for avoidance, minimization, and mitigation of impacts.

Process to identify historic/culturally significant properties and Area of Potential Effects is underway. The outcome is shared with Federal Transit Administration and State Historical Preservation Office to verify the properties that will need deeper study in the Phase II portion of the Section 106 study.
