Kris Fredson

Metropolitan Council Member, District 14

Portrait of Kris Fredson.Kris Fredson was appointed to the Metropolitan Council by Gov. Tim Walz in March 2019. Fredson lives in Saint Paul and represents District 14, which includes Saint Paul neighborhoods west of Interstate 35E.

Fredson is the Campaigns and Member Communications Director for the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), Minnesota and North Dakota. Previously he served as Political Director and Campaigns Manager for the Minnesota AFL-CIO, where he led the campaign to raise and index Minnesota’s minimum wage in 2014. He also served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman for four years.

Fredson served on the City of Saint Paul’s planning commission and its zoning and comprehensive planning committees. He also serves on the board of directors of the North Star Policy Institute.

“Regional policy-making, planning and services, investing in 21st century transportation infrastructure and affordable housing, and advancing equity are all necessary for our region to achieve its full potential,” Fredson said. “I am committed to achieving the Walz-Flanagan Administration’s vision of One Minnesota and answering Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter’s call to harness our people power and build a community that works for all of us.”

“You can count on me to proactively engage in meaningful ways, via one-on-one visits and community meetings in my district, by immersing myself in the experience of the people we serve, and by lifting up their stories,” he said.

Fredson has a bachelor of arts degree in social studies education and political science from Hamline University.
