Metropolitan Council Member, District 3
Christopher Ferguson was appointed to the Metropolitan Council by Gov. Tim Walz in March 2019. Ferguson lives in Eden Prairie and represents District 3, which includes the cities of Chanhassen, Deephaven, Eden Prairie, Excelsior, Greenwood, Long Lake, Minnetonka, Minnetonka Beach, Minnetrista, Mound, Orono, Shorewood, Spring Park, St. Bonifacius, Tonka Bay, Wayzata, and Woodland.
Ferguson is the Vice President of Business Development and Delivery for The Summit Group and President and CEO for Bywater Business Solutions. From 2010 to 2014, Ferguson served as Chair of the Central Corridor Business Resources Collaborative, leading a group of organizations in successfully supporting small businesses along the METRO Green Line with an innovative marketing and forgivable loan program to minimize closure of businesses during construction. Ferguson has also served on the Midway Chamber of Commerce, Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce, Minneapolis Workforce Council, and the Corridors of Opportunity Policy Board.
“When we think about transit and making the region a better place, equity is key for the Met Council,” Ferguson said. “Our region needs to address the disparities that exist and break down the barriers that are preventing people from accessing opportunities. I look forward to working with our district’s local elected officials as well as engaging the broader community to make sure their perspectives are included and they have a voice at the table.”
“Over the last 25 years, I have built my expertise in sales and finance, advocated for a strong transit system, and developed a deep understanding of our region and worked to eliminate racial disparities to drive economic growth,” Ferguson said.
Ferguson received his master’s degree in environmental engineering from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He went on to earn his law degree at Osgoode Hall Law School and an MBA from Schulich School of Business, both part of York University in Toronto.
Since 2011, Ferguson has coached youth teams in the Eden Prairie Hockey Association. He enjoys golfing, gardening and spending time with his two sons.
