Biography
Victor Obisakin brings to the Met Council a passion for mental health and social justice, and a unique perspective drawn from his experience in both public service and business operations. He has held various positions, ranging from a firefighter to an executive chef. Growing up, he lived in Nigeria, Brazil, and Israel. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in hotel, restaurant, and institutional management, and lived in northwest Minnesota for 20 years before moving back to the metro region.
Obisakin’s strong interest in the mental health of BIPOC communities and the disparities they experience led him to earn a master’s degree in public administration. He joined the Community Equity Program at the Amherst Wilder Foundation and the Boards & Commissions Leadership Institute at Nexus Community Partners, with the goal of becoming more involved in advocacy, state legislative policy, and community change. He is also a member of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee in West St. Paul and has joined the New American Leaders Program. Additionally, he volunteers at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and served as a soccer coach in West St. Paul with Salvo Soccer Club.
